Hi there. I recently joined and passed my DAS last week which I am well chuffed about as I was having nightmares about module 1! Anyway, I was wondering whether anyone had any advice regarding a first bike; there are two I am wondering about - A Honda VFR800 or a Yamaha Fazer 600 or 1000.

I would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks.

Cazzie.

For those out there looking for a new challenge, to lose weight or to just learn something new then have you thought about Taekwon Do? Hear is my Taekwon Do Training Diary as it is a great thing to take up. Great excercise, ethos as well as self defense.

Hello and well done Cazzie. If I were you I'd buy a Bandit 600 or 650. Loadsa spares , new and eBay stuff. Some great Forum and owners clubs for advice and parts and I had one , so can help you out when i can. I wouldn't buy a VFR800, great bike, but expensive when things go wrong or need replacing?BigGrin good Luck , Alan.

Thanks there. I just didn't like the look of the Bandit that much for me. I am quite fussy. I don't know anything about bikes, just know when I like the look of one! Not much hope for me I am afraid.

Hiya

Congrats on passing, you see it just takes calm and logic :) A popular first bike is a Suzuki SV 650S. This was the first bike I had and I think a good welcome to biking, there should also be plenty around. Debbie from South East Biker mag also has one and loves it and so worth having a look maybe. It is a v-twin which means you get smooth power pretty much all the time and engine breaking as well. Could be worth a look

I want to go faster, I want to go faster..

I'm with megawatt on this one (Bandit 600) - it's your first bike, you are highly likely to drop it on the drive or in front of friends! It's best if your first bike is fairly cheap (to buy and repair), otherwise you'll become afraid of the cost and your long term biking experience will suffer.

I actually started on a 400cc despite being a little of 6ft tall (I'm not the only one), because bigger cc's can distract you from the other sensations, such as balance and control, it can make you a better, safer and happier rider (I admit I was poor at the time too!). I know many MANY riders that jumped straight on a 600, they either took ages to become good riders or never did and are only adequate riders.

That's just my opinion though OK! Congrats on passing your test by the way! BigGrin
