Did anyone go to this show (or know it was on?) It was much better at the Hop Farm. It seemed to be very poorly attended and most of the traders had a very quiet weekend. How can bike shows be improved? Any ideas how to attract more people?

For those out there looking for a new challenge, to lose weight or to just learn something new then have you thought about Taekwon Do? Hear is my Taekwon Do Training Diary as it is a great thing to take up. Great excercise, ethos as well as self defense.

I have only been to a couple but they were run by completely different people but basically they are all the same!!! I think there is a need for something different. I think what Pete was originally talking about with speed trials, then there needs to be at least 3 major dealers with big show deals and ALSO some great childish side shows like the mini moto racing, wheelie machine, quad bikes, atv, perhaps taster cross country, a fleet of test bikes etc..
I thinkit needs to be somewhere with lots of space, the problem at the moment I think is there are loads more stalls then side entertainment and these events are becoming a large shop where 20 people sell the same thing and so people ending up paying £20 to go in and look at the same shops as last week!!
I would think people would go in if there was lots to do AS WELL as shops. Should be no more than 50 50 split of shops vs fun things.

WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK??

I agree, the Hop Farm was one of my annual visits, but as time went on it became so boring...
Jake Semtex, or whatever, the purple helmets were more fun...But its like the NEC show, just a mass of stalls selling the same stuff, all at shop prices, even though the claimed they were special offers..... anyone for a purple and white one piece kawasaki leather? (saw it the NEC 2 years running) I did my research before I went, and in all my visits to the NEC all I ever walked out with was an autographed book of Nick Sanders.Even the Optimate chargers were £5 more than my local bike shop!!!!!!!!!!!
A bike show needs activities, music, good well priced food, not £5 for a crap burger, it needs things like time trials, or mini moto racing, or something more than a few tents with the same kit. The price of entry also needs to be reasonable, no more than a tenner, after all you have already laid out for the journey there and back, food and refreshments on the day, plus a fee for helmet storage, and if your making it a family day out( encourage the kids to start riding), then it all adds up.
I would love to see a proper bike show down here in the south.

It was tried last year but went a bit off track, but a big hats off for those that try and it is a real shame it did not take off! I think there is still a market and justification for one but it takes a lot of money and connections. Maybe when I make my millions I will run one :)

I think it should be very cheap to get in to attract good crowds then plenty of hands on activities at reasonable prices. £10 for five minutes on a wheelie machine seems a lot, but if it was fiver people would have a pop. The internet has meant we can shop at home and find the best prices, something which these shows used to offer but is now obsolete. A central location (South of England showground at Ardingly?) would make it easier for all to get to.

South of England would be good from the sense of the size, location and that everyone knows it which would be good, the only issue I guess would be whatever the main pull might be and wether you are able to do it there! A speed trial I think is an excellent idea, otherwise a hands on try of some other things, if we were able to get a load (I mean about 20 at least) tester bikes then that could work well as I would imagine there would be some good space for testing them on the ground, else there are nice smooth roads around there to test things.

Would love to try running something and so if someone wants to put up some cash then let us know he heDrool Drool BigGrin BigGrin
