Hi. I'm not sure I am welcome on this site yet as I don't have my test til middle of August so am not a fully fledged rider yet! At the moment I have a Varadero 125 and only been riding for a couple weeks. Not particularly looking forward to my test at all and any help would be so gratefully received.

Hi Cazzie

If you are interested in using a bike then you are welcome! Where are you learning? Are you doing a DAS or A2? and whereabouts are you based?

You will also be welcome to the Wednesday bike rides once up and running.

I want to go faster, I want to go faster..

Hi. Thanks very much. Again my ignorance is gonna show. I think it is the DAS I am doing. I have a three day course in August with Module 1 and 2 on the same day! Bad move me is thinking with such little experience! lol Is there anyone near me that can give me a lesson! lol

I am based in Littlehampton. I have always been interested in bikes, though only had a moped many years ago. Now with a divorce it is another dream of mine that I am achieving and am so excited.

I would love to come on a ride but maybe I should wait until I have passed and have my bigger bike?!

Welcome Cazzie, don't get concerned about what you ride, lets face it a 125 can do 70 and thats the law of the land, just getting there is the fun bit if you want to protect your bank balance. We all started somehwere, the older ones of us had the benefit of being allowed to have a 250cc on L plates, my other half started by me hassling her into her CBT, she took her test on a 500cc and went straight on to a 900cc because I wanted a second bike. She has done advanced riding, and stuff like Bike Safe of which they run in Littlehampton.
Get your licence, and enjoy the rest of your riding life wet or dry. You will welcomed where ever you go, so we look forward to meeting you on a ride sometimeBigGrin

HI Cazzie

if you are doing the test on a 500 then you must be doing the DAS and therefore allowed to ride anything once you pass the test which i am sure you will do. With the test not far away are you feeling more confident about the riding on a heavyish bike?

You must make sure you let us know how you do

Thanks for replying.

No I am afraid I am not feeling confident at all. I have been riding for two weeks. When I did my CBT it was on some old Honda thing with a center stand and we had to push it and I couldn't do it and that was a 125! lol.

When I rode home yesterday from work along the A27 I found it very hard to keep the bike on my side of the road cos of the wind! I asked at work and apparently it's something I have to get used to! lol.

I have day off work tomorrow, I will have to see if I can get out on the bike again to practice.

more practise the better. I remember shortly after passing riding to a friends and thinking that it was nearly impossible to ride but I have never had that since and so it must have just been the fact that it was new. I am sure you will find that as well. Just try and do more riding around and it does just relax into it. i pressume though you are riding around on a 125 or do you have an instructor so that you can ride a bigger bike like the one you will be doing on the test.

I have my own 125 (another dream turned into reality after divorce lol) but I haven't been on a big bike yet. I have two days on it before I do my test.

Good luck with it all, you will love it! Don't be intimidated by the thought of a bigger bike, you will adapt really quickly and they are actually easier to ride as they feel a lot more solid and stable.

I am so chuffed. I couldn't do the swerve at all in Module 1 in the practice before test so was sure I would fail.

Well done, now go try a Triumph Street Triple, gear indicator, low seat height, reliable fun and good value for money, speak to Gavin at Destination Triumph, in Washington.
Well done again.BigGrin ThumpUp

Thanks, I will look one up on here see what they look like. I went and saw two bikes today, a Kawasaki ER6 and a Suzuki GSX650F. Now call me a typical girl but although I loved the Kawasaki the Suzuki did look nicer in the blue with the 'go faster' stripes! lol.

I will go look up the Triumph though.

Thanks again x

Things to consider when buying a new bike:
1) Warranty, how long, does it have UK and European recovery?
2) Service intervals some japanese bikes need servicing every 4k so that needs to be factored in.
3) Residual values, what will it be worth in two years time when you want to change up to something bigger, afterall it will happen.
4) Running costs, servicing and MPG, what gives the best return at the machines you look at.
5) Make sure that when you buy a bike you negotiate free data tagging and first service free too.
Some dealers will offer you extras for free, so haggle hard and walk away until you get what you want. It will work. Finally make sure you test ride before you buy, Suzukis suffer from a vibration around 4000 rpm, don't know about the Erf, the Triple is quick and will wheelie if your not careful, it also won bike of the year two years running.Sorry I am very biased, the wife rides a Street Triple and absolutely loves it, and she now knows what gear she's in which is a bonus.

Have fun and take your time, new rider insurance is another thing to consider, the bike insurer is a good web site to try.
If we can help in anyway let us know, we would be more than happy to.

God I hadn't even considered any of that. To be honest the only thing I had looked at was the riding position. I had never heard of data tagging til you said about it, though am gonna look that up. Vibrations at 4000rpm means nothing. lol.

I still have had no calls regarding my bike I put on Auto Trader and looking at others it is competitively priced. Til I sell that I can't buy another. Am I selling at a bad time?

I wouldn't recommend any new rider to buy a new bike. It's the time when you are most likely to drop it and you would be gutted when it gets scratched for the first time. Buy summat older, but reliable and well put together. We can help you with servicing and parts. Get some crash mushrooms on it and buy some good quality protective gear. Most of all keep riding and have fun!!!BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin
