For any speedway followers who are not aware there is a question and answer evening at the Arlington Stadium, Friday 13th at 7pm. The stadium is just off the A22 opposite Hailsham (BN27 3RE for you sat nav and google folk). Evening is for fans to meet up and talk to the management about the new season and team. There should be a few riders there as well and the official announcement of the team captain. Meeting is in the club room and the bar etc. will be open.
No charge for entry or parking.

Further info available from the official web site at

www.eagles.elite-eagles.co.uk/2010/

First meeting will be a challenge match against Peterborough on Saturday 20th March. Tapes up at 7.30pm but get there earlier if you want to tour the pits to see the bikes and meet the riders. Pits are usually closed to the public at 7.00pm

A pleasant 50 mile round trip from the Haywards Heath area if you are looking for an excuse for a ride.

Could be a rideout destination for the future.

EAGLES PRESS & PRACTISE DAY

Elite League Speedway Club EASTBOURNE Lifestyle EAGLES open their gates to all comers on Saturday, March 13th from 11am to 3pm.

The day is really a PR exercise to get local media types along to kick the season off and give them the opportunity to get some interviews and pictures.

But it is also a chance for joe public to see the new riders blow away a few cobwebs and try out their new engines. For the regulars a chance to get their first fix of barely silenced 500 singles at full chat and the beautiful aroma of hot methanol.

Entry is free, plenty of parking and the cafes will be open.

see attached for invitation or www.elite-eagles.com

EAGLES PRESS & PRACTICE DAY UPDATE

The recent wet weather and heavy frosts have prevented early preparation and practice on the track but things are looking up.

The run in to Saturdays P&P is forecast to be fine and everything is going to plan with local newspapers, radio and television lined up. The rest is up to motor sport lovers to come along and show your support.

Entry is free and it will be a lovely day for a ride....trust me !

Good to see you both at the Eagles P&P today. I have added the links for a few of the many “unforgettable” moments in speedways long history to whet your appetite for some real racing.
A race may only be 4 laps and last about a minute but have a look at these to see how much can be packed in!

1. British rider, Chris Harris (blue helmet colour) winning the British GP at Cardiff 2007. I was there.....makes you proud to be British!

2. Speedway is not all glory though. This is from an Elite League match in May 2009 when Eastbourne Eagles were at home to Swindon Robins. The match was being televised by sky sports and it ran over schedule by more than an hour as there were so many accidents and injuries. This clip shows a few of the incidents. You will hear the commentator mentioning Dave “floppy” Norris injuring his wrist in a crash with Troy Batchelor. In fact Dave’s hand was dragged up under the back mudguard by the rear wheel of Batchelors bike which then ripped the sleeve of Dave’s race jacket and flayed the skin of his forearm. Dave had many skin grafts before it finally healed and it ended his career. There will be a testimonial meeting for Dave on Saturday 15th May. Many of the worlds top riders will be racing to show their support for one of the characters of speedway and Eagles top points scorer of all time.

The last part of the clip shows the last lap of the last heat (15). Both teams tracked their top scorers on the night for this heat. Swindon fielded vastly experienced GP rider and captain Leigh Adams(green helmet) with stalwart Travis McGowan(yellow helmet). Eastbourne fielded captain Davey Watt and young hotshot U21 champion Lewis Bridger. In the first attempt (not shown in this clip) Lewis’s bike shed a chain that badly lacerated his leg. The chain then flew through the air and wrapped around team mates Watts wrist causing severe bruising. Both riders were unable to take part in the rerun so “second string” riders Cameron Woodward (red helmet) and Lukas Dryml (blue helmet) were drafted in for Eagles. To add to the drama Swindon riders needed to finish first and second to salvage a league point from the meeting. Adams and McGowan got away to a good start and tried to block the track by team riding. Woodward tried every line for the first three laps but could not get past until the last corner when he rode round the outside of both Swindon riders to take the match bonus for Eagles.

It was great to meet you Hooter. The practice was pretty good to watch, they certainly shift down the straights!! We had a good view from the side.

We will arrange a trip over there after a rideout one thursday, I can't wait to see some actual racing.
