The challenge is now on. I, the guy with NO mechanical know how has received heated grips for my bike. The intructions exist to fit the new grips but to get the old ones off do i just take a stanley knife to the grip and take off the rubber or is there a better plan? Anyone fitted any of these and found some good instructions or got tricks of the trade?

Hi Mike,

I didn't fit mine but just a reminder that some of them turn off automatically with the ignition but mine don't so I have to be careful to not leave them on. The grips would be nice and warm when I get back on but the battery will be flat.

Oxford grips are the best I think, Nick's Tiger has the Triumph factory fitted grips and they are not as warm as mine.

Sorry can't help with the fitting but it sounds like you have the best ones.

Quite Excited!! Fitted these last night, there was beer involved and so may have put them on my car but will see this morning LOL LOL LOL

We did look to connect them to an ignition circuit (the horn) but that eluisive black and brown cable did not want to be found and the beer was proving to be not helping (Who would have known!!)

Therefore we (I say we but was my mate really) just wired it to the battery and I must ensure to turn it off, that is half my concern, the other is that some little bugger when parked in a car park will press buttons, but will see how we go.

We are planning to revisit this challenge in more sober times but i am looking forward to taking the bike out and turn these bad boys on and see what they are like!!!

Only just registered so a bit late to help Ninja but in case it helps others my tip for getting handlebar grips off is WD40. You will find that WD40 features strongly in my technical tips!
The secret is to get a thin bladed screwdriver (or similar probe) pushed in between the grip and the bar. This may require removal of the end weight or careful piercing of the grip. Give the resulting gap a squirt of the magic fluid and wiggle the screwdriver about to spread it around. A few more squirts and some squeezing and twisting of the grip may be enough to get it off. Failing that take the screwdriver out and repeat again a bit further round the grip. As in most things mechanical better to keep your cool and free up a bit at a time than rip the grip or stab yourself in a fit of rage. Try to pull the grip off from the end nearest the switchgear as this will tend to open up the grip diameter. Finally and most importantly give everything a good clean to get rid of all traces of WD40 before fitting the new grips.
Now were cooking!

Flapper Washing up liquid on a thin screwdriver then wiggle, unless they've been superglued on, then it's probably WD40 as mentioned previously!Wink
