Many thanks to Haslemere Motorcycles and their customers who supported our joint open day in November. Around 200 turned out on a cold gloomy day and helped raise £157 for Hampshire air ambulance. We hope to be involved with similar events in 2009.
Congratulations to Wealden District Council for marking the legendary Troy’s retirement by naming a new housing development after the all conquering aussie superbike hero. A nice reminder to bikers not to get too carried away copying the great man’s exploits on the road as well!
Tilly Muir, a 28 year old Canadian who has only been riding for four years, has set a new world record for the fastest woman on two wheels. She was clocked at 239.36mph on her turbocharged Hyabusa.
World Superbike racing will not be coming to Brands Hatch in 2009. So the biggest sporting event of the year, with a host of young Brits included this season, is denied us because of a financial dispute. A round of BSB is planned in its place. Let’s hope the organisers have their heads banged together to sort the meeting out in time for 2010. This weekend in August is where many youngsters in the region have their only chance to see some of the world’s top riders in action.
Brad Pitt is set to play Steve McQueen in a new film about the life of the Hollywood legend who died of cancer in 1980. McQueen not only had a passion for and collected fast bikes, but was also an excellent rider. Check out the cult 1970’s film On Any Sunday to see the Steve in action plus superb footage of motorcycling sport from that era.
